Miss Frances Rigby

Miss Frances Rigby is a Bye-Fellow in Astronomy.

Frances completed her MPhys in Physics and Astronomy at Durham University before joining Magdalene for her PhD at the Institute of Astronomy.

Frances’s work concerns exoplanet interiors, atmospheres, and habitability. Her research focuses on a new class of potentially habitable planets known as Hycean worlds, characterised by their deep oceans and hydrogen atmospheres. Frances is a co-investigator on an accepted proposal for observing time with the James Webb Space Telescope, which will observe the atmospheres of candidate Hycean worlds. In her department, Frances supervises for Part II Astrophysics courses and is part of several committees for postgraduate students.
