Alumni Benefits

When you graduate you automatically become an alumnus/alumna of the College and the University of Cambridge.

Magdalene provides many benefits for its fantastic alumni community.

Visiting Magdalene

Members wishing to visit the College are asked to check in at the Porters Lodge upon arrival.

Members are always welcome in College outside of the Easter Exam Term. Alumni are welcome to bring their families to walk around the gardens, visit the Chapel and the Pepys Library.

During Easter Term (April - June) to minimise disruption during exam time, it is suggested Members time their visits to coincide with the opening time of the Pepys Library which is open 2 hours a day for 6 days of the week.

It is not possible to visit the New Library during full term without notifying the Alumni and Development Office in advance. It is not possible to visit the New Library during Easter Term. You can find more information on visiting the New library in the section below.

Do drop into the Alumni and Development Office in Mallory A if you have the time, we are always delighted to see Members!

Visiting The New Library

The New Library is a source of great pride for the College and alumni are understandably interested in visiting this lovely new building. We do however have to be mindful that the College Library is a quiet study space in constant use by our students and we hope you will appreciate that we have to limit access in order to maintain a safe and quiet study environment.

Visits to the New Library are subject to the following parameters:

Out of term: July to September and December to mid-January
Members can arrange visits Monday-Friday, 10.00am - 12.00pm and 2.00pm - 4.00pm. Your visit must be arranged in advance, with a minimum of 2 working days’ notice. It is possible to bring family members with you for your visits but please remember that it is a quiet place of study. Members are asked not to bring guests other than family. Third parties can apply to visit the New Library by contacting  new-library-access@magd.cam.ac.uk to arrange a visit.

Michaelmas and Lent Terms: October – November and mid-January to March
Members can arrange to visit, Monday-Friday 10.00am - 12.00pm and 2.00pm - 4.00pm. Visits are dependent on staff availability as all visits during term time must be accompanied by a member of staff. Alumni visits during term are limited to 2 people maximum. Group visits during term time are not possible.

Easter Term and Easter Vacation: April – June

The New Library will be closed to all non-resident Members from Monday 1 April 2024 until Saturday 15 June 2024. No alumni or the public will be permitted between these dates.
