The historic Chapel building is a living place which brings the College community together in worship, reflection, and prayer. The Chapel is open to all resident members and staff who wish to sit and pray, reflect, or just seek some quiet in this peaceful place.
We are delighted that our local parish church of St Giles (immediately next door to the College) has kindly opened their doors to us for choral worship. The College is very grateful to the Rector and PCC.
Regrettably, the College is closed to the public and we are unable to welcome the public to services at the moment, whether in College or at St Giles. We look forward to the time when we can extend a more generous welcome again, in the Magdalene way.
We have a new pattern of worship: Sunday Evensong at 6pm and Wednesday Compline at 9pm at St Giles. Sunday morning at 9.30am in Cripps auditorium.
Booking for these services is essential.
There are 30 spaces available for each service. A space must be reserved in advance. Please do not book unless you are a current student, Fellow or member of staff. Thank you for your understanding.Book to attend a service
Every effort has been made to ensure that visiting the Chapel and gathering for worship has minimal risk. Individuals attending worship must not mix in a group of more than 6, arriving and leaving singly and keeping 2 metres apart at all times. Masks are required and everyone should clean their hands on arrival and departure.
Please visit the Chapel Facebook page (you do not need an account to view content) to listen live to an audio streaming of our Sunday evensong and Wednesday Compline. A video service will be released following the Sunday service with music, prayers and the sermon from Evensong on our Chapel Youtube channel. The Sunday morning service will be video streamed live to Facebook.
About the Chapel
Built in the 1470s, the Chapel embodies Magdalene's rich heritage, our patron saint's life is depicted in the East Window, while memorials commemorate missionaries, church leaders, teachers, and those who gave their lives in conflict.
There is an extensive program of worship in the College Chapel with many interesting and varied speakers throughout the College term. Find out what is going on this term in the Chapel and Discover what events and music recitals are taking place.
The College Chaplain, Rev'd Sarah Atkins, is available to talk to any member of the College community on any matter, personal, practical, or spiritual. Sarah is happy to hear from Members who would like to assist by reading lessons, leading prayers, or serving as a Chapel Officer.
The Magdalene College Choir sing Choral Evensong twice a week in Chapel as well as at prestigious College events and special occasions. The choir go on tour every summer and regularly sing in cathedrals, and for services and events across the UK.
