Shakespeare in the Fellows' Garden

The Merry Wives of Windsor.

2024 marks a historic occasion for Magdalene as we celebrate 300 years since the Pepys Library arrived in College. To honour this historic anniversary, we are thrilled to invite alumni and their guests to a special theatrical performance.

Pepys, a passionate lover of the theatre, frequently documented the performances he attended in his famous diary. In the spirit of his love for the arts, we are delighted to announce a special open-air performance of William Shakespeare's 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' on Sunday, 15 September. This event will take place in the picturesque Fellows' Garden and will be performed by the renowned touring theatre group, The Pantaloons.

However, the clever ladies are one step ahead, and they turn the tables on Falstaff with a series of humorous and mischievous tricks.

Expect an afternoon filled with laughter, as The Pantaloons bring their unique blend of slapstick humor, modern twists, and interactive elements to this timeless comedy. Their innovative approach promises an engaging experience, combining Shakespeare's classic wit with contemporary entertainment.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and drinks to enjoy a picnic in the Fellows' Garden from 12:00 pm. An outside bar will also offer a selection of drinks and snacks for purchase by card on the day.
