The Michael Keall Fund at Magdalene

Mr Michael Keall (1989), former Junior Bursar (1989 – 1993) and the first Alumni Secretary (1998 – 2012), passed away on Sunday 7 July 2019. In honour of his memory, the College is setting up the Michael Keall Fund in support of student activities, including, but not limited to, music and sport.

Michael took a warm interest in the student body and knew many students personally. He was interested in all student activities but in particular, he took a special interest in College music and sports, compiling the list of College Blues and Half Blues for publication in the College Magazine each year.

The College hopes his Fund will grow to support a broad range of student activities. The intention is for a small award committee, led by the Master, to consider applications to the Fund each year, awarding small grants in Michael’s name to help fund societies, sporting activities and the extracurricular development of students.

Michael kept in touch with countless old Members, and greatly relished his role as Alumni Secretary, taking enormous care with the organisation of many Reunion Dinners and lunches. In all of the many institutions he served so well, Michael held a unique place in people’s affections. His memory for and eager interest in every individual he met, his wide range of interests, from rugby to choral music, his unobtrusive but profound kindness, his unruffled enthusiasm and good humour, all this and more made him universally loved; He will be sorely missed by all of us here at College.
