The Cambridge Archaeological Unit, the McDonald Institute, and Magdalene College Cambridge are combining to celebrate the centenary of the 30th November 1923 publication of The Archaeology of the Cambridge Region by Cyril Fox.

The Conference

Cyril Fox and regional approaches to archaeology within a comparative framework

A two-day conference will examine Foxʼs contribution to the archaeological understanding of the Cambridge region, comparing his 1923 understanding of it with that of today. And in so doing, addressing the main conference theme of what constitutes a ʽregionʼ. In light of this, the conference will also examine other ʽregionsʼ within a comparative framework across Europe where intensive archaeological surveys have taken place, perhaps also partly inspired by Foxʼs 1923 publication.
