Peter Peckard Prize Winner 2019
This year's winner of the prestigious Peter Peckard Prize is Mr Mael Laoufi, an incoming second-year Mathematics undergraduate at Homerton College, Cambridge.
The Peter Peckard Memorial Prize was established in honour of one of Magdalene's most distinguished eighteenth-century Masters. Funded by the generosity of two Magdalene Members, the prize is awarded for an essay or similar composition on some egregious form of human exploitation in the world today and the actions needed to eliminate it.
The judges awarded the prize to Mael for his essay titled ‘Political Governing Bodies and forced labour imposed by private actors’. It is a powerful and original study which deserves a wide readership.
Mael will be presented with the award and the £1000 prize money at a prize-giving ceremony followed by dinner at Magdalene in October hosted by the Master, Dr Rowan Williams, senior Fellows and members of the prize-giving committee.
Huge congratulations to Mael!
