About 30% of our undergraduate students, and a larger proportion of our graduate students, come to study here from outside the United Kingdom. Magdalene is a relatively small college and is renowned for its warm and friendly atmosphere.
New international students are invited to arrive in College a few days earlier than other students at the beginning of their first year so that they can meet other international freshers and have time to settle and sort out all the practicalities of moving to the UK before the main freshers events get underway.
We have put together an additional set of Frequently Asked Questions especially relevant for applicants from outside the UK. If you can't find the information you require there, please feel free to contact the Admissions Office and we will do our best to help.
The University, on behalf of the colleges, runs a well established programme of interviews in certain countries outside the UK. In addition to Cambridge, it is also possible to apply for an admissions interview in:
- Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)
- PR China (Shanghai)
- Hong Kong
- India (Mumbai)
- Canada (Toronto)
Please note that due to time restrictions, some of these locations (notably Toronto and Hong Kong) have certain eligibility restrictions related to residency.
If you intend to apply for an interview in Singapore or Malaysia then it is also important to note that applications for interviews in these locations have an earlier deadline of 20 September.
For interviews in all other locations, including Cambridge, the application deadline is 15 October.
Remote Interviews (USA)
The University also operates a scheme for applicants from the United States to have a remote interview by video link from New York. Currently, Magdalene will consider applicants for arts subjects under this scheme, but not applicants for science subjects.
