Study Land Economy at Cambridge
Environment, Law, and Economics (formerly Land Economy)
Environment, Law, and Economics (ELE) is a multi-disciplinary degree which includes the study of law, economics, finance, environment and development.
ELE graduates pursue a variety of careers: in recent years about half our students have progressed to postgraduate degrees at leading international universities. Others are pursuing careers in law, finance, real estate finance, management consultancy, renewable energy and entrepreneurship.
The Cambridge Environment, Law, and Economics degree provides full exemptions from the written examinations of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and also exemptions from certain of the law subjects required for qualification as a barrister and solicitor.

The College is fortunate to have a benefaction (from Fred Cleary, an Honorary Fellow 1976-84) to support study of the subject (e.g. field trip and travel expenses). In addition, College Scholarships are awarded on the basis of University exam results.

More details of the course and the optional papers available can be found on the University’s Undergraduate Study pages and the Department of Environment, Law, and Economics website.
What we are looking for
Since the Environment, Law, and Economics Tripos is an interdisciplinary course, you need to have a strong interest in these subjects and in the relationship of law and economics to the natural and built environment, nationally and internationally. The Environment, Law, and Economics Tripos aims to develop in students a rigorous foundation in law and economics so students must be willing to undertake a demanding course of study.
Subject requirements
Applicants for Environment, Law, and Economics are drawn from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Students may have a background in either the Arts or the Sciences, and some have both. What is required is a demonstration of numeracy and literacy, critical and analytical skills, the ability to learn and the determination to succeed.
Maths A-level (or equivalent) is helpful but not required: students who have not studied A-level (or equivalent) Maths attend additional classes in the first term and are expected to get up to speed quickly.
