Tell us if something made it difficult for you to study
Extenuating Circumstances
We understand that unexpected challenges can significantly impact your education.
If you have faced difficulties that have affected your studies, please let us know. This allows us to consider your unique situation during the admissions process.
How can you let us know about Extenuating Circumstances?
Most extenuating circumstances should be declared by your teacher in your UCAS reference. However, if information about your extenuating circumstances cannot be given in the UCAS reference or your school or college is unaware of your circumstances, you should ask a relevant professional (e.g. a doctor or care worker) to contact us. An email template is provided for them to use.
More information can be found on the Undergraduate study Tell us if something made it difficult for you to study page.
When should Extenuating Circumstances be shared?
These are some examples of situations that we would appreciate having more information about during the application process:
- A serious medical condition (acute or chronic) that disrupted your education.
- Significant caring responsibilities or recent bereavement in your immediate family.
- Living independently from your family, including estranged students.
- Major disruptions to your education due to personal or family challenges.
We encourage both applicants and their school or college referees to share relevant information. It is essential to provide these details at the application stage, as failing to disclose pertinent circumstances later may affect the admissions process.
Submission deadlines
Most extenuating circumstances should be declared in your UCAS reference.
Any additional information should be submitted by 22 October.
In rare cases where new extenuating circumstances arise after your application has been submitted but before any written assessment or interviews please contact the Magdalene Academic Office. We may accept information about extenuating circumstances after the 22 October deadline, but only if the issue concerned can be shown to have arisen after that date and could not reasonably have been foreseen. In these circumstances, the absolute deadline is 30 November.
