Dr Jane Blunt
College positions: College Lecturer in Engineering
Subject: Engineering
Dr Jane Blunt is a College Lecturer in Materials Science and teaches the properties of engineering materials for students studying the Engineering tripos at Magdalene.
I graduated in engineering from Cambridge with a PhD in 1990, and went on to work at the Welding Institute just south of Cambridge. I did industrial research and development, and failure investigations there. I also branched out into safety, which gave me a global view of the research and other operations in the company.
I then moved to the Department of Physics as their Safety Officer in 2000, where I advised on all aspects of safety from the design of equipment, experimental protocols, the emergency response etc.
I also write materials for distance learning students (GCSE and A levels in Sciences), and teach Structural Integrity with the Open University.
