Miss February Phillips

College position: Bye-Fellow, Architecture and Design Director of Studies

Miss February Phillips is a Bye-Fellow and Director of Studies in Architecture and Design at Magdalene College.

MIss February Phillips is a Design Fellow teaching Architecture and Design at the University of Cambridge. She is also a lecturer at Norwich University of the Arts. She studied for her undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications at Magdalene College, Cambridge, and received her professional qualification from the University of Cambridge in 2005.

February’s teaching is founded on over two decades of experience as an architect and urban designer, leading award-winning projects and collaborating with clients and stakeholders to create impactful designs. February’s applied knowledge of the design of the built environment spans across all stages of a project, from inception to completion on site. Areas of interest include the sustainable retrofit of places of heritage interest, public realm design, workspace design, housing and strategic masterplanning.

February’s involvement in teaching architecture started in 2010, teaching architecture as a foundation course in Cambridge School for Visual and Performing Arts. She went on to teach 3rd year architectural design at the University of Cambridge and has been involved with interviewing, teaching and advising students at Cambridge since 2011.

February has had articles published in the RIBA Journal on engagement in architectural design, and has presented at RIBA conferences on post-war housing and professional outreach. She was also editor of, and is a regular contributor to Cambridge Architecture, the regional publication of the RIBA. She was on the editorial team for Scroope 14, the Journal of the University of Cambridge Department of Architecture.

Until recently, she was a trustee of the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry and has connections to the wider construction industry locally. She was also the chair and treasurer of the local branch of the RIBA.

Research Interest

The sustainable retrofit of places of heritage interest, public realm design, workspace design, housing and strategic masterplanning.
