Dr Dean Jobin-Bevans

Dr Dean Jobin-Bevans is a Visiting Fellow at Magdalene.
Dr Jobin-Bevans’s career has been a balance between research interests, including the life and music of Henry Aldrich, the Dean of Christ Church, Oxford (1689-1710), and various roles in academic leadership. His research output has included short paper publications on the choral music of Henry Aldrich, with a focus on his English anthem repertoire composed for use in services held in the Cathedral at Christ Church.
In addition to publications, his research has produced over 35 edited choral editions and two world premier recordings of choral music composed by Henry Aldrich, all under the banner of The Henry Aldrich Choral Project. A third CD project is currently underway to record choral and instrumental music by Aldrich and contemporaries such as William Tucker, Thomas Tudway, Christopher Gibbons and John Blow, featuring the Magdalene College Choir under the direction of Magdalene Fellow and Director of Music, Mr James Potter (2022).
In addition to Dr Jobin-Bevans’s university academic career, he has served as the Chorus Master of the Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus, as well as the Interim Director of Music at the Church of St Andrew and St Paul (Montréal). Dr Jobin-Bevans was recently ordained a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada and is currently serving as the Incumbent at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Thunder Bay.
Research Interests
Dr Jobin-Bevans’s academic work includes teaching conducting and undergraduate music history, he also directs the Lakehead University Vocal and Chamber Choir programs. His research interests include the music of the English Reformation, the choral music of Benjamin Britten, and the music of Henry Aldrich, Dean of Christ Church (Oxford) 1689-1710.
