Magdalene College Old Library holds a rare 1595 Slavonic Psalms book, likely acquired via Thomas Nevile, with a connection to Mark Ridley, an English physician in Russia. Catalogued for research.
Mallory Club Summer Update 2020
Magdalene Boat Club had a stellar year, with wins in Fairbairns and Lent Bumps, growing strength across crews, and a strong club spirit that endured even as COVID-19 cut the season short.
Dr Lisa Maria Kreusser wins Reinhart-Heinrich Doctoral Thesis Award
Congratulations to Dr Lisa Maria Kreusser, winner of the Reinhart-Heinrich Award for the best doctoral thesis in Mathematical and Theoretical Biology.
Peter Peckard Prize Winners 2020
The College is pleased to announce the 2020 Peter Peckard Prize, awarded for work addressing serious human exploitation and how it can be eradicated.
Dr Martin Hughes (2000) 1949-2020
The College is deeply saddened to announce the death of Dr Martin Hughes, Life Fellow in Medicine and long-serving Tutor, at the age of 71.
The Food of Sichuan
Fuchsia Dunlop (1988), author and cook, was the first Westerner trained at the Sichuan Institute. She’s spent over 20 years exploring and writing about Chinese cuisine.
Dr Pedro Magalhães de Oliveira (2015) wins Clean Sky Academy Award
Dr Pedro Magalhães de Oliveira won the Clean Sky Academy Award for Best PhD Thesis in Applied Sciences and Engineering. His work on droplet-induced flow phenomena aids alternative jet fuel certification.
Pepys’s Tidal Almanac
The smallest book in the Pepys Library is a 1546 tidal almanac by Guillaume Brouscon. It includes tide tables, maps, and symbols for saints, and may have once belonged to Sir Francis Drake.
Big Bang Academy
After a career in banking, Sarah Tong (2011) co-founded Big Bang Academy to spark young children’s love of science through hands-on learning. The academy now teaches 400+ students across Hong Kong.
