Cancellations and refunds
- Cancellations made at least 14 days before the event are eligible for a full refund unless otherwise stated.
- Refund requests after this period will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.
- Cancellation requests should be emailed to events@magd.cam.ac.uk with your name and booking details.
If the College cancels an event, the ticket fee will be refunded. However, Magdalene is not liable for travel, accommodation, or other related costs. Efforts will be made to notify attendees and updates will be posted on the website.
No refunds will be issued for non-attendance.
The College reserves the right to refuse entry or ask attendees to leave if their behaviour is inappropriate. No refunds will be issued in such cases.
Code of Conduct for Dining in Hall
- Dinner in Hall is a formal event, and diners are required to dress and behave appropriately. Guidelines as to the relevant dress code for the event in question will be provided to all attendees in advance. Resident Members (current students, Fellows) of the College must wear gowns.
- Diners must not arrive in Hall intoxicated or allow themselves to become so during the event. Buttery Staff may refuse access to Hall or eject diners who are obviously intoxicated, or whose behaviour is deemed detrimental to the maintenance of proper order.
- Guests under the age of 13 are not permitted in Hall, and diners seated at High Table should be aged 21 or older.
- As dining in Hall is a communal activity it is not appropriate to make impromptu speeches or toasts, to bang tables, to sing, or for conversations to become too loud.
- The practice of throwing coins into food or drinks (known as ‘pennying’) is strictly forbidden.
It is never acceptable to act in a verbally or physically abusive manner towards College Staff, nor is it acceptable to engage in conduct liable to endanger the well-being of College Staff or other diners, or to damage College property, such as throwing food or standing on tables or chairs. - Diners must not alter seating plans or place cards. Place cards are organised in advance and denote to Buttery staff where there are particular dietary requirements. Any interference with place cards may potentially endanger diners with severe allergies or other medical requirements.
Photography and filming
Photography and filming may take place at in-person events for use on the College website, social media, and official materials. Signage will indicate when filming occurs. Please inform staff on the day if you do not wish to be photographed.
Some virtual events are recorded and may be published online. If you prefer not to be recorded, disable your camera and microphone and avoid posting in the chat.
