Domestic Bursar
Full time: 37.5 hours per week
£85,000 p.a
Magdalene College is one of the ancient colleges of the University of Cambridge, celebrating its 600th anniversary in 2028. It is very proud of its long history but is also a thoroughly modern and forward-looking College.
The College is looking to appoint a new Domestic Bursar with the role due to start in September 2026. The appointee will be elected a Fellow of the College, reflecting the key position they will hold within the community, working closely with the Senior Bursar to determine the College’s non-academic strategy. The Domestic Bursar oversees many of the College’s operational teams, including, but not limited to, Catering, Accommodation, Housekeeping, and Buildings, and will be responsible for the College’s commercial conference activity. Whilst providing oversight of these departments, the Domestic Bursar is crucial to supporting the College’s academic mission, contributing to key committees and decision-making processes and securing Magdalene’s purpose for future generations.
Candidates will have excellent people management, problem-solving and relationship-building skills. They will be an experienced senior leader across an especially broad remit, with expertise in income generation and the planning and delivery of capital building projects, as the College has an ambitious estates programme. As the Domestic Bursar will be part of the day-to-day running of the College, they will ensure seamless and efficient delivery of essential services to the College’s community of Fellows, students, and staff, as well as to guests, including conference attendees and alumni of the College. They must be approachable and grounded, with commercial acumen and a service mindset.
