Location and Access Path
Where are these facilities located in College?
- The Cripps toilets are located within Cripps Court which is located on Chesterton Road, a short walk from the Main College on Magdalene Street.
- To access Cripps Court a card needs to be placed on the card reader which measures at 1.39m from the ground. This will open the automatic gate. Dependant on time of year/function this gate can be fixed open.
- The gate opens inwards and measures at 1.46m wide per half. There is a separate half of the gate, which needs to be opened manually if required and this will then double the width of the gateway.
- There is also a bell/intercom at the same height linked to the Porters’ Lodge if assistance is required.
- Once within the Cripps Court Entrance Courtyard, there is an automatic sliding door. Dependant on time of year/function this door may open automatically via a sensor – however if the door is locked a card needs to be placed on the card reader which measures at 1.17m from the ground.
- There is also a bell/intercom at the same height linked to the Porters’ Lodge if assistance is required.
- This doorway measures at 1.76m wide.
- When exiting Cripps, if the doors & gate are not on automatic open, a card must be placed on the card reader to the left of the doors and at the gate.
- The card reader at the door measures at 1.09m from the ground.
- The card reader to at the gate measures at approx. 1.39m from the ground, the gate will open inwards towards you.
What is the path or pavement condition?
Once within Cripps, the entrance pathway is laid with smooth flagstone paving which is in good condition.
Is the path flat or sloped? Is there a ramp?
The path is flat, but there is a slight camber towards the entrance.
Are there any stairs to the main entrance, or is it level access? Is there a lift available?
- The main entrance of Cripps is level with the path.
- A lift is available within Cripps to reach toilets on all levels.
- The lift door is 90cm wide, the buttons are 99cm high from the ground and there is a handrail, which is also 99cm from the ground.
- The area of the lift measures at 1.78m².
Is the access path well lit?
Path is well lit, lighting levels are good.
Where are the public toilets within Cripps?
There are three sets of public toilets within Cripps, all comprise of a Women’s, Men’s and Accessible toilet block. There is one set of toilets on each floor of Cripps, and these are signposted throughout the building.
The Ground Floor/Foyer/Garden Room facilities (abbreviated to GF for reference).
As you enter Cripps, The Ground Floor/Foyer/Garden Room toilets are located on the ground floor, to the right of the building by the Porters’ Lodge and Conference offices. There is signage on the wall outside the facilities.
The First Floor/East Room/Meeting Rooms facilities (abbreviated to FF for reference).
These toilets are located on the First Floor of Cripps Court where the East Room and the Meeting Rooms are located, and are accessible by either stairs or via the lift (please see relevant measures for the lift above.) Follow the corridor round towards to the East Room, and the facilities are on the left hand side. There is signage on the wall outside the facilities.
The Second Floor/Gallery/Orangery facilities (abbreviated to SF for reference).
These toilets are located on the Second Floor of Cripps Court, where the Gallery and Orangery are located, and are accessible by either stairs or via the lift (please see relevant measures for the lift above). Follow the corridor round towards to the East Room, and the facilities are on the left hand side. There is signage on the wall outside the facilities.
Are there any doors in the corridor to any of these toilets?
There are manual doors at the entrance to the SF toilet facility. These doors open inwards and measure at 82cm per half – currently one half is locked in position however, this can be unlocked if required. When exiting these doors must be pulled inwards towards you.
Is there any directional or locational signage for this facility?
Signage both written and pictorial is located on the outside wall of each toilet block.
Toilets
How many stalls are in each toilet?
- In every Men’s toilets, there is one single cubicle/stall toilet and two urinals.
- In each of the Women’s toilets, there are three single cubicle/stall toilets.
Is the toilet entrance door manual or automatic? If manual, is the door heavy?
All entrance doors are manual and are heavy. Women’s and Men’s toilet doors open inwards. Please note ALL SF toilet entrances have door closers fitted – this makes them heavier to open.
Is there a lock on the main entrance door to the toilet?
Yes, however this is not lockable by the public.
Is a key required for access to the toilets?
No.
Is there a sanitary disposal unit available in each stall?
Sanitary disposal in each Women’s cubicle as well as a general waste bin – a general waste bin is in each of the Men’s facilities.
Are there baby-changing facilities available?
No.
Are stall/cubicle doors manual? If manual, is the door heavy?
All stall doors are manual and are light to open.
What are the dimensions of the standard stall, and what is the width of the stall door?
- Men’s cubicles/stalls range from 76cm x 123cm (GF), 80cm x 163cm (FF) and 88cmcm x 157cm (SF) with the doors widths measuring at 53cm wide for all three cubicle/stalls.
- Women’s cubicles/stalls range from 81cm x 151cm (GF), 76cm x 154cm (FF) and 94cm x 147cm (SF) with the doors ranging in width from 53cm-55cm.
How are stalls locked?
- Women’s and Men’s toilet cubicles/stalls are locked with a sliding lock.
- Accessible toilets have a twist lock.
Accessible Toilet
What are the dimensions of the wheelchair-accessible toilet?
Ground Floor accessible toilet area is 3.22m², First Floor accessible toilet area is 3.28m² and Second Floor accessible toilet area is 1.33m².
What is the width of the door?
All doors open outwards into the corridor and measure at 92cm (GF), 70cm (FF) and 93cm (SF) wide. Please note that the SF door has a door closer fitted and is very heavy.
Is there a grab rail on the door?
No.
Is there a toilet roll holder? Can it be reached from seated on the toilet? What is the height of the roll holder above floor level?
All Accessible toilets have a wall mounted toilet roll holder fitted at approx. 1m from the ground – this is easily reached from the toilet.
How is the accessible toilet locked?
All three toilets have a twist lock, which is 1.02m from the floor.
What is the height of the washbasin?
The sinks measure at approx. 71cm for all three Accessible toilets; all of these have a lever mixer tap.
Is there a mirror?
Yes, a mirror is above each sink in each Accessible toilet and is approximately 80cm from floor.
Is there a shelf within the toilet stall?
No.
Is there a hand dryer or towel dispenser?
There are only hand dryers in each of the three accessible toilets. They measure at 1.18m (GF), 1.07m (FF) and 1.20m (SF).
Is there a coat hook?
No.
What is the height of the toilet seat above floor level?
All Accessible toilets in Cripps measure at 47cm from the floor.
Is there lateral transfer space?
There is lateral transfer space in all of the Accessible toilets. If facing the toilet the space is to the left of you and is unobstructed.
Are there wall-mounted grab rails available?
In all the Cripps Accessible toilets there are various left and right, vertical and horizontal handrails throughout. They vary in direction and position.
Is the flush on the left or right facing the toilet pan?
All flushes are to the left (if sitting on toilet). These are all spatula flushes.
Is there an emergency pull cord alarm in the toilet?
All three accessible toilets have a red emergency cord, this goes from ceiling to floor.
