Magdalene Giving Day - A huge success for student support!

On 11-12 March, we held our first ever Giving Day, a 36-hour challenge bringing together the whole College community. Students, Members, Fellows, staff and friends from across the world united, connected, and shared College memories of why we all love Magdalene all whilst raising money for student support and welfare services.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated and got involved. We had hoped that 200 donors would support the Giving Day but have been overwhelmed that 335 supporters joined in and together we raised in excess of £100,000!

Every penny raised will go to support Magdalene’s students, whether through bursaries so students need not be deterred by the expense of attending Magdalene, supporting the activities which are so vital to the student experience or promoting the College to those with the academic potential to thrive here, regardless of background. We were particularly pleased that so many Members put their generous support towards the Rowan and Jane Williams Bursary Fund, which will provide funding to students from Wales in recognition of the outgoing Master and Lady Williams’ remarkable service to Magdalene.

It was brilliant to see so many Members getting involved with the activities;: sitting in our giant deckchair, cheering on the dedicated members of MBC in the 160km ergathon, entering the Bake Off (or partaking of the cake!) and grabbing breakfast on the way out of College. You have all helped in the success of the day, and it is testament to the community in College that over 100 students, staff and Fellows donated towards our student support initiatives.

Thank you to all our ambassadors and donors (particularly those who offered matches to inspire yet more generosity); your donations really will make a difference to the lives of current and future Magdalene students!
