The College Archives
The College Archives safeguard centuries of Magdalene’s history, offering researchers access to historic records, rare documents, and personal papers from the sixteenth century to the present day. The collection includes key materials on College governance, estates, architecture, and student life, providing a detailed record of the institution’s development.
The archives feature:
- Administrative and governance records detailing the College’s leadership.
- Estate and building documents, including maps, plans, and photographs.
- Personal papers of Fellows and students, capturing academic and social life.
- Historic student organisation records and College event photographs.
Notable collections include the papers of former Masters Daniel Waterland (1683–1740), Peter Peckard (1718–1797), and A. C. Benson (1862–1925), as well as documents from renowned alumnus George Mallory (1886–1924).
The Archive Centre in the New Library ensures the long-term preservation of these materials. A dedicated reading room is available for students and researchers exploring Magdalene’s history.
