The Revd Dr Robert MacSwain

The Revd Dr Robert MacSwain is a Visiting Fellow at Magdalene.

The Revd Dr Robert MacSwain is Associate Professor of Theology at the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, USA. During the 2023-24 academic year he is a visiting scholar at Vanderbilt Divinity School, and also the American Yip Fellow at Magdalene during the Easter Term. This sabbatical year is partially funded by a grant from the Templeton Religion Trust to research a project titled "Exploring Critical Catholicism".

He has lived in the UK on three separate occasions: as a master’s student at Edinburgh (1995–96), a research assistant at Lambeth Palace (2000–01), and a PhD student at Durham and St Andrews (2004–10). While in Durham he served as the Ramsey Fellow and Chaplain of St Chad’s College, and later co-edited The Cambridge Companion to C. S. Lewis (2010). He is especially pleased to be affiliated with the College where Archbishop Ramsey was a student and Lewis was a Fellow.
