Dr Philip Howell is Director of Studies for Geography at Magdalene. He is a historical and cultural geographer specialising recently in the field of animal geography and animal-human history.
He was a student in Cambridge at Emmanuel and Downing Colleges, and was appointed to the Department of Geography in 1989. Currently Reader in Historical Geography, he has written two monographs on the nineteenth century, and co-edited three volumes of essays, including two recent collections on animal-human history.
Research Interests
Historical and cultural geography, particularly in: animal geography and animal-human history; geographies of sexuality and social regulation; literary geographies.
