Standard Bank Chairman's Scholarship
Background, Eligibility, and Application Instructions
Up to four Standard Bank Chairman's Scholarships will be awarded annually to African students commencing an MPhil degree, with the aim of enhancing their skills to enable them to contribute to the future growth of their countries. The scholarships aim to support postgraduate students of outstanding academic merit and leadership potential.
Scholarships are offered each year to academically excellent candidates holding a University offer for an MPhil with primary nationality from Angola, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
NB: Preference will be given to students ordinarily resident in Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa who have been accepted to undertake MPhils in Economics, Education, Engineering for Sustainable Development or Finance and Management. Applicants to the MBA and MFin are not eligible.
The scholarships are full awards that cover University Fees (overseas rate), a full maintenance grant for a single person, and £2,500 travel and settling-in allowance.
Preference will be given to applicants who have indicated Magdalene College as their first College choice in their University application. Candidates will be selected by Magdalene College. It is a condition of the award that the recipient is a member of Magdalene College or willing to transfer to Magdalene College.
It is expected that all applicants will have been made an offer by the University before the scholarship application deadline of 13 March 2020.

Please ensure that all the required application paperwork is submitted as early as possible. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
You also need to arrange for two recent academic references to be supplied by the competition deadline using the online form to which they will be referred on receipt of your application. The references should be written by people who can offer an assessment of your academic achievements, your broader interests, and your potential to contribute to the advancement of your field of study in the long term.
