Festival of Change - Lent Term events

The Magdalene Festival of Change is a unique opportunity to hear speakers across disciplines engaging with a key theme in the modern world: this year, the theme is Change.

There are some fantastic Festival of Change events this term, all events are free to attend and open to all.

All events will be held at Magdalene College in the Sir Humphrey Cripps Theatre, in Cripps Court on Chesterton Road.

Thursday 25 January, 5pm - Reporting Change

A panel discussion featuring three distinguished journalists on how political and social news is reported. Sam Coates, Bridget Kendall, Ramsey Zarifeh.

Thursday 8 February, 5pm - Life Change, Death and Grief

A panel discussion about the impact of major life changes through the eyes of experts in medicine, history and poetry. Dr Cecilia Brassett, Dr Brendan Burchell, Will Stone, Dr Carl Watkins.

Saturday 10 Feb, 11am - 4pm - Changing the Human Experience

A symposium, chaired by Dr Hannah Critchlow, on Artificial Intelligence, non-verbal communication and constructed languages. Includes lunch. Booking is essential. Dr Bettina Beinhoff, Prof Nicky Clayton, Clive Wilkins, Dr Marwa Mahmoud, with Interstellar 227.

Thursday 22 February, 5pm - Change on the Early Silk Road

Dr Michael Scott, author and broadcaster on the Ancient World, gives the Lent Term Festival Lecture.

Thursday 8 March, 5pm - Gender and Change

A panel discussion on the social and medical issues surrounding gender. Dr Ari Ercole, Jess Borthwick, Dr Gillie Stoneham.

Saturday 10th March, 11am -3pm - Translation/Transformation.

A Symposium and Workshop for all on the idea of translation (no special knowledge required). Lunch included. Booking essential, please email litfest@magd.cam.ac.uk (please mention any dietary requirements). Speakers include George Szirtes and Sophie Seita.
