2020 Telephone Campaign

Every year, Magdalene undergraduate and postgraduate students take part in the College’s two-week-long Telephone Campaign. This year, the Telephone Campaign will run from 21 September to 5 October. It is a wonderful way for us to stay connected with our Members and is a key part of the College’s regular fundraising programme.

Magdalene has been running Telephone Campaigns for 18 years, raising over £2.5 million since 2002. This year we are proud to have a wonderful team of 10 student callers who will, no doubt, be fantastic ambassadors for the College. Over the next few weeks they will take to the phones to get in touch with Members across the world, to share College news and updates, talk about shared Magdalene experiences and ask for your financial support.

But it’s not just about raising funds; the Telephone Campaign facilitates conversations between Members of different generations, strengthening our College community. Our student callers are passionate about taking part and we tend to welcome previous Campaigns’ callers back to the team because they truly enjoy the opportunity of hearing Magdalene stories and memories from years gone by. The advice, tips and career guidance they receive from the alumni they chat with allow the student callers to gain invaluable insights from their predecessors who have may developed careers in professions they aspire to become part of.

Every gift to the Telephone Campaign counts and the total raised has a very significant impact on our ability to provide financial support to all our students who need it thus ensuring that the brightest and best are able to study at Magdalene free of financial anxiety.

In these unprecedented and uncertain times, we are concentrating on raising funds to help our people, the students, researchers, supervisors and academics suddenly facing unexpected and exceptional financial difficulties, and our College. We have created an Unrestricted Fund to give the Senior Bursar the ability to respond to immediate pressing needs swiftly. Every single gift to the 2020 Telephone Campaign will make a very real difference.
