New College Chaplain

The College welcomes The Reverend Sarah Atkins as the new College Chaplain. Sarah returns to Magdalene having read Theology here as an undergraduate 2002-2005. Before her appointment at Magdalene Sarah was Curate at Trumpington Parish Church and trained for ordination at Ridley Hall. She is married to Gareth and they have two young children.

Sarah writes:

"It is an immense joy to be back in Magdalene and to serve this wonderful community. Some things haven't changed a bit but in many ways this is a place on the move and I am excited about getting to know students, staff and Fellows as another new season in Magdalene's life begins this term.

I am very aware of the shoulders on which I stand as I take up the Chaplaincy here. The Chapel community is in great heart and welcomes people of all denominations and persuasions. Many students, staff and Fellows enjoy the space it offers for spiritual refreshment and friendship.

I remember the first time I visited the Chapel when I came up for interview one freezing December day. It seemed as though it was waiting for someone to enter, and as I sat among the wood, the white and the gold, I knew myself attended to. This space has remained open for centuries - it waits now for the next generation of the community to find a lodging here and, as Mary Magdalene did on Easter morning, to seek what makes for fullness of life."

The Chaplain is here to foster community life and to offer a listening ear on any matter. Sarah is available to any member of the College to discuss emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual welfare. Look out for welfare events and opportunities to explore faith. Details of services this term can be found in the Chapel Termcard. You are welcome to get in touch at any time.
