Mallory: Magdalene to the Mountain

-
Magdalene College

The College is organising from its Archives a celebration of one of the most famous Magdalene men, George Mallory (1905-1909).

MALLORY: MAGDALENE TO THE MOUNTAIN
The Old Library, First Court, Magdalene College Cambridge

The College Archives holds the largest and most important single collection of papers about Mallory (mainly given to us by his son John Mallory). This will be the first opportunity to see something of a fascinating range of materials, from Benson's diary entries about him, to the three letters recovered from his pocket when his body was discovered on Everest in 1999; together with a selection from the 367 letters Mallory wrote to his wife Ruth.

The Exhibition seeks to show that behind the mountaineering fame, the romance and mystery of his life and death, there lies a man of intriguing personality, and of many remarkable talents.
