Leslie Wilson Maintenance Award
Background, Eligibility, and Application Instructions
The Leslie Wilson Research Studentship was endowed by Leslie Hamilton Wilson of Ayr and his wife, Margaret May Wilson, in memory of their son Leslie (matriculated 1948) who died in the air disaster at Prestwick on Christmas Day 1954. The purpose of the trust they endowed is ‘to found scholarships in memory of our son. Larry loved Magdalene and was very happy during his time there’.
The awards (currently £15,330 per annum for three years) are intended to support PhD students whose fees are covered by another funding body, but who need maintenance support in order to take up their place at Cambridge.
Preference will be given to applicants who have indicated Magdalene College as their first College choice in their University application. Candidates will be selected by Magdalene College. It is a condition of the award that the recipient is a member of Magdalene College or willing to transfer to Magdalene College.
It is expected that all applicants will have been made an offer by the University before the scholarship application deadline of 13 March 2020.
Applicants should complete and submit the below application form no later than 13 March 2020.
You also need to arrange for two recent academic references to be supplied by the competition deadline using an online form to which they will be referred on receipt of your application. The references should be written by people who can offer an assessment of your academic achievements, your broader interests, and your potential to contribute to the advancement of your field of study in the long term.
If you cannot apply online, a paper application and references form can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
