Magdalene College Law Society (MCLS) Dinner

-
Magdalene College

The Master and Fellows invite Members to a dinner in College to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Magdalene College Law Society (MCLS). We are delighted that the Right Honourable The Lord Judge PC QC (1959), an Honorary Fellow of Magdalene, who served as the Lord Chief Justice and President of the Courts of England and Wales from 2008 to 2013, has agreed to speak after dinner.

The MCLS was founded in 1968 when Mickey Dias was Director of Studies in Law, and it has thrived since then, serving to promote both academic study and practical application of the law at Magdalene. The Society, now led in organisation by a student President, student Secretary and the Director of Studies in Law, continues to: organise an active programme of presentations, talks and dinners; help students (both reading Law and other subjects) connect with potential employers; support legal studies through peer mentoring and an annual second-hand book sale; and run the RWM Dias Cup, the College’s annual mooting competition.

All Members who read Law or who work in the law will be most welcome. It will unfortunately not be possible to accommodate guests on this occasion due to space restrictions in Hall. As our records may not list all Members who work in the law, please do share this page with any such Members who may be interested.

Programme

6.45pm: Pre-dinner champagne reception
7.30pm: Dinner in Hall

Dress code: Black tie, no gowns

Cost

£60; includes pre-dinner champagne reception, a three-course meal served with paired wine, followed by cheese and port.

We hope that Members will consider making a small donation in addition to the cost of the dinner to enable us to offer tickets to our current law undergraduates at a much reduced price.
