About the Campaign
Future Foundations - The Campaign for Magdalene initially aimed to raise £25 million to secure undergraduate bursaries, support postgraduate students and early career Fellows, build a new College Library and restore the iconic Pepys Building.
Three years on we have raised an amazing £26 million and are looking forward to the opening of the New Library, a stunning addition to the College estate, entirely funded with donations from Members, Friends, Trusts and Foundations.
We have already achieved much in terms of raising funds to support our students and early career Fellows but now, more than ever, need to continue our work in this area to do yet more. Given the extraordinary times we live in, our focus at this time is on our people and on ensuring that the College can weather the current economic challenges. We will refocus on the Pepys restoration project in a year or two depending on national and global developments.
Magdalene has thrived on the generosity of supporters over the centuries and more Members and Friends are supporting the College today than ever before. The Emergency Fund launched in May in response to the growing Covid-19 crisis raised in the region of £150,000, a wonderful testament to the immense loyalty and generosity of the global Magdalene community.
The College’s commitment to academic excellence includes the provision of financial support, the best possible teaching and pastoral care as well as continued work to upgrade our facilities to enable our students to succeed. The New Library, an innovative sustainable building, with its spacious work areas, excellent IT facilities and the social hub will offer a fantastic resource to students, scholars and visitors alike as will the archive and the Robert Cripps Gallery and is expected to open in Lent Term 2021.
Magdalene's ambitions for the Future Foundations Campaign:
- Raising unrestricted funds to enable the Bursar to respond swiftly and immediately to need as it arises across the College during this difficult economic period.
- Securing our undergraduate bursaries so that everyone able to study at Magdalene can do so undeterred by financial concerns.
- Supporting our postgraduate students and early career Fellows in the current difficult financial climate for academic research.
- Conserving our historic estate and, looking ahead, restoring the Pepys Building when the time is right.
We believe the Campaign is vital to secure the future foundations for Magdalene and it can only be realised with your help.
