Pepys Library, Magdalene College
Visits, Talks and Tours
Please check the Opening Dates and Times on the Library web site.
Visits are not normally arranged during periods of closure of the Pepys Library.
The Entrance to the Library is on the first floor of an historic building. Access is by a staircase of approximately 25 steps. We regret that there is no access by lift.
The College grounds are open 9am to 6pm most days but are closed during the examination period. Individuals or groups may visit to the Pepys when the College is closed for examinations (late April-early June) but access within the College on those occasions is limited to the Library.

Talks and Tours
Staff in the Library will be happy to try to answer questions from individual visitors. Groups can request a tour, but only a limited number of tours are booked each year, so please contact us as soon as you know your plans and we will confirm availability.
If you wish to book a tour, please email us, including a leader’s name for the group, a contact email address and a postal address (needed for VAT purposes).
An Introductory Tour takes about 45 minutes, including a talk about the Library and Samuel Pepys, and time for visitors to look at the displays.
Let us know well in advance if you are interested in a particular aspect of the Collection. It might be possible to take account of this in the tour.
We are pleased to welcome pre-booked school groups. Let us know the ages of children and any particular interests and especially the relevance of your visit to work for the National Curriculum (e.g. the Great Fire of London, Scientific Writing).
We are able to offer a generous number of free tours to schools under our outreach programme. If you wish to apply for a free tour, please mention this in your email.
There will be a requirement for appropriate levels of supervision within the College for any school group; and you will be informed of the minimum number of accompanying staff when your booking is confirmed. Accompanying staff are usually free of charge.
Please note that children under the age of 6 are not allowed in the Library. Visitors should be aware that there are steep steps to the library, glass-fronted bookcases and other hazards; and that children must be well behaved during their visit to avoid damage to themselves and the library.
