Supporting the Pepys Restoration Project.

Magdalene College is undertaking a £6.3 million restoration to preserve the Grade I listed Pepys Building, a treasured landmark at the heart of the College.

This ambitious project will ensure the building and its extraordinary collections remain accessible for generations to come. The restoration includes a striking new entrance hall, an accessible lift, and a dedicated exhibition space. A new teaching and seminar room will provide an educational hub for visitors and school groups studying the Great Fire of London and the life and legacy of Samuel Pepys.

As with the award-winning New Library, the College is committed to a restoration that respects the building’s history while ensuring its longevity.

Funding the restoration

While Magdalene is investing significantly in this project, we are asking for your support to raise half of the £6.3 million required. Your generosity will help return the Pepys Building to its former splendour, funding expert craftsmanship and historically sensitive materials to honour this exceptional heritage site.

Areas of support

Book of Benefactors - $1350.00

A $1,350.00 donation, as a one-off gift or instalments, will be acknowledged in the commemorative Book of Benefactors. This beautifully handwritten volume will be displayed in the restored Pepys Building, ensuring your name, or that of a loved one, is recorded for posterity.

Preserve a Press - £25,000.00

The books of the Pepys Library are housed in the original oak bookcases designed by Pepys in 1666. A gift of £25000.00 (please contact the Development Director for the dollar equivalent)will enable specialist conservators to restore and preserve one of these historic presses for future generations.
