The JCR (Junior Combination Room) is the undergraduate body of the College. All of Magdalene College's undergraduates are automatically members and can make use of its facilities. However, membership is not compulsory and any undergraduate can waive the rights and privileges of membership.
The JCR Committee is elected annually at the end of Michaelmas Term (mid-November) by the undergraduate community. Its officers are responsible for the running of the facilities provided for undergraduates, including satellite television, pool table and juke box. In addition, they organise many popular social events in College, ranging from the ubiquitous Cambridge bop to jazz evenings and garden parties.
The JCR also represents the interests of all undergraduates, and acts as the link between students and Fellows. In particular, the JCR President attends meetings of the Governing Body, and the Amalgamation Club which allocates money to the sports clubs and other College societies.
Detailed information on JCR activities, including a special section on services and activities for new members of College, can be found on the Committee's own website jcr.magd.cam.ac.uk. The JCR site is independently maintained; it is not part of the official College website, and the views and opinions expressed thereon do not constitute views and opinions of the College as a whole or of the Governing Body.
