University Lecturer in Chemical Engineering
Bob Skelton graduated in Chemical Engineering at King's College, Newcastle in the University of Durham in 1960. He has spent most of his working life in the process plant contracting industry. Though based in North-East England, he has worked in India, the USA, South America and Australia. Before coming to Cambridge in 1990, he was Manager of Process and Safety for Davy McKee Nuclear and played a major part in the design of radioactive waste treatment facilities at both Sellafield and Sizewell. He now lectures in the Departments of Engineering and Chemical Engineering and is in charge of teaching design in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Mr Skelton is a member of the Council of the Institution of Nuclear Engineers and a member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers Register of Safety Specialists. He is a College Lecturer and Supervisor in Engineering and a member of the Editorial Boards of both IChemE and INucE. He is also Treasurer and Appeal Co-ordinator for his parish church. His other interests include music, particularly chamber and church music, railways and gardening.
Research Interests
Mr Skelton runs a small research group looking at new methods of treating organic wastes. He has recently written an undergraduate text book on Safety Analysis, published by the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and is the author of a number of papers on nuclear waste treatment and on process safety.
