The senior membership of the College consists of the Master and Fellows, a group some 60 strong, drawn from a variety of backgrounds and with interests in many different fields. All have some role to play in the life of the College, and the majority are involved in both teaching and research.
The main burden of teaching and administration is borne by the Official and Professorial Fellows, led by the President. Those who have served the College in this way for many years may be elected on retirement to Emeritus or Life Fellowships. The senior research community is completed by a number of stipendiary Research Fellows and non-stipendiary Bye-Fellows.
Others taking an important part in College life may be chosen as Fellow Commoners; while individuals distinguished by achievement either within or outside the academic world are associated with the College by the award of Honorary Fellowships.
The Master, together with the Official and Professorial Fellows, constitute the Governing Body, responsible under the College Statutes for the running of the College. They maintain contact with the College's student membership in many different ways, but particularly through the Middle Combination Room and Junior Combination Room Committees.
