Join Magdalene Alumni at The Boat Race 2025

Watch The Boat Race with Magdalene friends!

Magdalene Members are warmly invited to join the Magdalene Boat Club (MBC) for their annual gathering at The Boat Race on Sunday 13 April 2025. First raced in 1829, this iconic contest between Oxford and Cambridge University crews is one of the world’s oldest and most famous amateur sporting events. The race takes place on the historic Championship Course, a 4.25-mile stretch of the River Thames from Putney to Mortlake, attracting over 200,000 spectators along the riverbanks and watched by millions more on TV.

Good luck to Magdalene MPhil student Caroline Rijkse (2024), who will be in the Stroke seat for Blondie. We will be cheering for you and all the light blues!

The Magdalene group will meet at The Eight Bells pub from 12.00pm, conveniently located next to Putney Bridge on the opposite bank to the Embankment boathouses. Alumni are welcome to drop by to catch up with friends and new faces, and then head down to the river to watch the crews battle it out.

Race Schedule

  • 13:21 – The 79th Women's Boat Race
  • 13:36 – Women's Reserve Race: Osiris vs. Blondie
  • 13:51 – Men's Reserve Race: Isis vs. Goldie
  • 14:21 – The 170th Men's Boat Race

Watching from Home?

If you can’t make it to London, you can still be part of the action by tuning in live on BBC One. Alumni groups around the world will be hosting their own watch parties, drinks gatherings, and dinners. You can download an exclusive Boat Race event pack from the Cambridge Alumni website, which includes everything you need to bring the race-day spirit to your celebration.

We hope to see many Magdalene alumni there – whether on the riverbanks or cheering from afar – for what promises to be a thrilling day.
