Saturday 18 March Magdalene hosted the prestigious Regional Final of the English-Speaking Union’s schools’ public speaking competition.
Seven teams of 3 year 11 pupils from the East of England took part (having won their respective local) heats and the winning team – St Clement Danes will go on to the National Final held in April. Runners-up in the competition were Colchester County High School.
This is the 6th year running that Magdalene has hosted the competition, introduced by Professor James Raven, Fellow whose is also Deputy Chairman of the ESU of the Commonwealth – with the Cripps theatre full to capacity with the school children and their supporters.
This year was a very Magdalene event with the competition itself arranged by James Scruby (1975) and one of the 3 Judges was Kate Dunbar (3rd Year Magdalene English Student and President of the Union Society).
Congratulations St Clement Danes and good luck in the National Final!
