Open Days 2011

Magdalene College will hold Open Days on 6th, 7th and 8th of July 2011. Brief details of these events are given below.

Wednesday 6 July
2pm - 5pm

We are open in conjunction with the University Open Days on July 7 and 8. There will be College Tours throughout the afternoon taken by current Magdalene students. The Admissions Tutor, the Admissions staff and current Magdalene students will be available to talk with visitors. Also, our Director of Studies in English will be available to talk to students interested in applying for English between 4pm and 5.30pm. You are welcome to visit at any time during the afternoon. Booking is not required. You should, however, book to attend the overall Cambridge Open Days on July 7 and 8. Thursday 7 July

Classics

Computer Science
Our Director of Studies, Dr John Fawcett, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for Computer Science between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Economics/ Land Economy
Our Director of Studies, Dr. Kanak Patel, will be in College to talk to visitors interested in those subjects. She will be available between 2 pm and 3 pm. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Education
Our Director of Studies, Ms. Linda Fisher, will be in College to talk to visitors interested applying for Education. She will be available between 10am and 1 pm. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Engineering
Our Director of Studies, Dr Richard Roebuck, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for Engineering between 10am to 1pm and between 1.30pm to 5pm. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

English
Our Director of Studies, Dr Jane Hughes, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for English. She will be available from 9.30am to 11am and 3pm to 4pm. There will be short sample lectures on topics of general interest to English candidates at 4.30-5.30 pm. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Geography
Our Director of Studies, Dr Tom Spencer, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for Geography on Friday only. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

History
Our Director of Studies, Dr Carl Watkins, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for history. He will be available between 9.30 and 10.30 am. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

History of Art
Our Director of Studies, Duncan Robinson, will be in College to talk to visitors interested in applying for History of Art on Friday, from 10 am – 12 noon.

Law
Our Director of Studies, Dr Neil Jones, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for Law. He will be available from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Linguistics
Our Director of Studies, Dr Theresa Biberauer, will be available to answer questions via e-mail. The Director of Studies for Modern and Medieval Languages will be able to answer questions on the day. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Mathematics
Our Director of Studies, Dr Stuart Martin, will be in College to talk to visitors interested in applying for Mathematics. He will be available between 10 am – 11 am. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Medicine
Our Directors of Studies, Dr Martin Hughes and Dr Cecilia Brasset, will be in College on both days. Dr Hughes will give a sample supervision in Medicine, starting at 11.30am. Dr Cecilia Brasset will be available between 2pm – 3pm to answer general questions. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask for directions.

Modern and Medieval Languages
Both Directors of Studies, Dr Hugo Azérad and Silke Mentchen, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for MML. Dr Azérad will be available from 11 am – 12.30 pm and Silke Mentchen will be available throughout the day. Booking is not necessary, just call in and ask.

Natural Sciences
Our Directors of Studies, Professor Paul Dupree and Dr Chris Edgcombe, will be in college to talk to visitors interested in applying for Natural Sciences.

Other Visits
The College is often open at other times of the year for visitors to explore the College buildings and gardens. However potential applicants should be aware that during exams and at some other times the College may be closed to visitors. We recommend that individuals or school/college groups who wish to visit the College do so by prior appointment. If we know you hope to visit, we may be able to make specific arrangements for you e.g. to meet with a specific Director of Studies or an Admissions Tutor or to arrange a tour with a member of the College.
