Possible visa delays for overseas students
Congratulations on receiving your offer from Magdalene!
What do you need to do now? For the majority of offer holders your place will be conditional upon gaining both academic qualifications and providing a financial guarantee that you can meet the costs of your studies at Cambridge.
Your offer letter will typically state the academic requirements we have set. We typically make slightly more offers than we have places available, so if you fail to meet your qualifications, I'm afraid it is very unlikely that we'll be able to confirm your place here. If you do miss your offer, you should contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible and they'll be able to confirm the outcome of your application.
If you have already completed your studies at school then your offer is normally conditional upon meeting the financial requirements only. See below.
The cost of studying at Cambridge depends on your fee classification. It is ultimately up to individuals to find financial support and to provide evidence that they are capable of meeting the costs of studying at Cambridge. There is some support for students who have Cambridge offers, though it should be emphasised that such awards do not normally cover the whole of the costs of studying here and students should seek to identify sources to cover the costs of study here as far as possible.
For EU and Overseas applicants we typically send application forms for financial support from the Cambridge European and Overseas Trusts. These forms are usually posted in January. The bursaries do not fund students completely but may go some way towards meeting modest financial shortfalls between the estimated costs and your ability to meet those costs.
Once you have matriculated at Cambridge, UK-domiciled students may be eligible for additional financial support through the Cambridge Bursary Scheme. This is a means-tested scheme and application forms are sent to students in residence in their first term of residence. More details can be found here.
Once you have met both your academic and financial requirements, your offer will become unconditional and you should formally confirm your place through UCAS. At this stage we will write again providing full details about coming into residence in October; what to bring, what not to bring, advance reading lists, information on accommodation, who to contact etc etc. This information is normally dispatched in mid-August once the majority of students have their offers confirmed.
