The postgraduate community in Magdalene is a lively and important group within the College. It has its own facilities and organises a varied social programme. We hope that you will want to join us.
Of Magdalene's 460 students about 200 are graduate students. The graduate population of the College covers a broad profile and includes members with a wide span of ages, subject areas and backgrounds. About one quarter of the graduate community is following a one year course such as the MPhil, PGCE or LLM, with the remainder engaged on longer courses, largely for the PhD. The overall split between broad subject categories is Arts (16%); Social Sciences (22%); Physical Sciences (34%) and Biological Sciences (31%). At present about 50% of graduates are female.
The College welcomes Overseas Students and a large number of countries from all continents are represented in the graduate population. The College also has a number of students taking time off from their careers to study.
In the coming year it is probable that Magdalene will admit from outside Cambridge about 20-25 students who intend to read for the PhD degree and a further 30 students who intend to pursue one year courses. Applications are welcome from men and women from all countries for all types of courses and in all fields of study.
The College also runs a Bye-Fellowship Competition, for third year research students, and a Research Fellowship Competition for those at the end of their PhD research.
